Episode 31 - Anti-Carceral Approach to Suicidality with Kaitlin Baldwin

Ivonne Hammoud Season 1 Episode 31

Trigger Warning: This episode discusses suicide and suicidality briefly. Please take care while listening, and reach out for support if needed.

In this episode, we explore an anti-carceral approach to suicidality—an alternative to the traditional criminalizing and institutionalizing responses to those struggling with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Kaitlin Baldwin joins us, as we delve into how the carceral system often exacerbates harm rather than providing meaningful support, espeically for folks in the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities and how we can reframe our approach to mental health crises in a way that prioritizes care, compassion, and community-based solutions. We’ll also discuss other ways to support those who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a mental health professional or a support hotline in your area.
